Bathed in Light
Portugal-based visual artist and experimental photographer Besma Ftouhi’s water emulsified images are soaked with plays on light, texture, and medium. As an inventor of an entirely unique photographic technique involving water and ink emulsion, Ftouhi is no stranger to blending elements and attempting visual alchemy. What viewers find in the work of Besma Ftouhi is material transformation. Flat surfaces become dissolving layers of silk, and snapshot transfers become aglow with heat. In fact, Besma Ftouhi’s work is undeniably soaked in experimentation, and bathed in light.
